Tipsy Tuesday: Top 5 Summer Margarita Recipes

We are going to be kicking off a series of cocktail posts every week titled Tipsy Tuesday, where we bring you our favorite cocktail recipes every Tuesday. If you don’t know, we both work corporate jobs during the week, which can be quite draining. Summer is finally approaching in Chicago and so what better way to celebrate (and make the week go faster) than with a couple midweek cocktails.

This week we will be serving our Top 5 Summer Margarita Recipes developed by us! If you have never created your own cocktail recipes, let me just tell you that you typically don’t find the right ratio on the first attempt. What I am getting at is that we have 5 of our favorite margarita recipes below and although we had a vision in our head of what we wanted to create, it took about 2-3 attempts of each version. You do the math…. now you know where the name of this series came from (#TipsyTuesday).

This week our cocktail creations came to life with a couple of our favorite spirits: Teremana Small Batch Blanco Tequila, Grand Marnier and St. Germain. Check them out and let us know what you think in the comments below 🙂

Number 5: Grapefruit Rosemary Margarita

Grapefruit is a great complement to the blanco tequila and adds a little bit of a bitter twist to the classic margarita. This would be great paired with any sort of dish seasoned with basil, rosemary or mint. A few of our favorites are: Bobby Flay’s Roasted Chicken with Mint Sauce or Angel Hair Pasta with Shrimp, Tomatoes and Basil.

Grapefruit Rosemary Margarita:

  • Fill shaker with ice and add Teremana Tequila, grapefruit juice, lime juice, St. Germain.
  • Shake vigorously until well mixed and outside of shaker is very cold.
  • Salt the rim of a rocks glass and with ice.
  • Strain cocktail into salted rocks glass and garnish with rosemary sprig.
  • Enjoy!

Number 4: Avocado Mint Margarita

The avocado mint margarita is a very different take on a margarita that could be served with either a main course or a dessert. The addition on avocado and coconut milk makes this a thicker and creamier margarita that can either be served frozen or shaken over ice and served up. The avocado and mint pair well with something like a Spinach Salad with Cucumber and Citrus Dressing, or a Lemon Mint Sorbet.

Avocado Mint Margarita:

  • 3 oz. Teremana Blanco Tequila
  • 2 oz. agave syrup
  • 1 oz. Grand Marnier (or Triple Sec)
  • 1/2 medium sized avocado (diced)
  • 1 oz. coconut milk
  • 1/2 oz. fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 oz. fresh lemon juice
  • Ice

  • Combine tequila, agave, triple sec, avocado, mint, coconut milk, lime juice and lemon juice in a blender for 30 seconds.
  • If you prefer this to be a frozen margarita, add ice into the blender and blend until smooth
  • If prefer a shaken version, fill shaker with ice and add blended mixture
  • Shake vigorously until cold
  • Strain into margarita or coup glass
  • Enjoy!

Number 3: Marmalade Margarita

This is a lifted version of an traditional margarita using orange marmalade as the sweetener instead of agave or simple syrup. The orange marmalade gives an sweeter orange flavor than a traditional margarita. From a pairing perspective, I would say this goes well as a breakfast cocktail served with a Hashbrown Breakfast Casserole.

Marmalade Margarita:

  • 2 oz. Teremana Blanco Tequila
  • 1 oz. Grand Marnier
  • 1 oz. fresh lime juice
  • 2 teaspoons orange marmalade
  • Garnish: 1 orange slice

  • Add the tequila, Grand Marnier, lime juice orange marmalade into a shaker with ice
  • Shake vigorously until well-chilled.
  • Strain into a margarita or coup glass
  • Garnish with an orange slice
  • Enjoy!

Number 2: Classic Margarita

The classic margarita is a favorite of everyone especially with out secret little twist. Most classic margarita recipes include tequila, triple sec, lime juice and agave. Ours includes all of these, but an additional splash of fresh orange juice removes the bite of the fresh limes. Classic margaritas pair well with many dishes, but our favorites are Tacos al Pastor or Chicken Enchiladas.

Classic Margarita:

  • Add the tequila, Grand Marnier, lime juice and agave into a shaker with ice.
  • Shake vigorously until well-chilled.
  • Strain into a margarita or coup glass.
  • Garnish with a lime wheel.
  • Enjoy!

Number 1: Spicy Blackberry Margarita

Our favorite summer margarita recipe is a spicy blackberry margarita recipe. This was a last resort when we were trying to find our fifth recipe and it ended up being both of our favorites. The summer punch that the blackberries give paired with the spice from the jalapenos is delicious. To compliment this great summer cocktail would be nothing other than a great Grilled Steak with Shishito Pepper Salsa recipe. This also would pair well with a dessert like this Peach Crisp.

Spicy Blackberry Margarita:

  • 2 oz. Teremana Blanco Tequila
  • 2 oz. fresh lime juice
  • Handful of Blackberries
  • 2 Slices of Jalapeno (more depending on how spicy)
  • 1 oz. agave
  • Ice
  • Garnish: Salted Rim and Blackberries

  • Add the tequila, lime juice, blackberries, jalapeno slices and agave into a shaker and muddle.
  • Add ice and shake vigorously until well-chilled.
  • Salt the rim of a rocks glass.
  • Strain cocktail into salted rocks glass.
  • Garnish with a couple blackberries on a toothpick.
  • Enjoy!

Stay tipsy my friends 🙂
